AP Research STEM Resources
Course Requirements
All AP Research-STEM students must register for this course in Canvas at the end of AP Seminar and work on the Summer assignments. To be successful in this course, students must start reading and researching on their topics of interest right after completing their AP Seminar final Performance Task and continue learning throughout Summer.
In addition to the Summer assignments, Canvas has the Lab Safety Quiz #1, the Lab Safety lecture, Research topic sign up google sheet and other helpful course materials. Students should look for any future summer meeting invitations through Canvas as well.
Finding Areas/Ideas to Research
Scientific Review Committee(SRC)/Institutional Review Board (IRB)
All student research proposals must be submitted and approved by SRC/IRB before the research/project can begin. SRC/IRB meeting dates are posted below; the committee meets three times per year. Before submitting to the SRC/IRB:
Make sure your project adheres to the requirements of the course
You are familiar with the common scientific vocabulary terms to help you navigate the scientific literature

Lab Safety
AP Research students must complete the lab safety training, watch the lab safety videos and pass the lab safety tests before working in the Wet Lab for the Center for Advanced Studies and Research. Due to the current COVID-19 crisis, availability of the WET Lab will depend on the future circumstances on campus. In the meantime, please familiarize yourself with the lab safety guidelines the rough the following documents: Flinn Student Safety Guidelines.
All students must have passed the online lab safety quiz before the first day of school. Additionally, start brain storming and recording your ideas, questions, thoughts, explanations etc. in a hard cover composition notebook over the course of summer; this will become the PREP/logbook next year.

In AP Research -STEM course, the inquiry and research over the course of this year will lead to the following products by the end of the year:
(1) 4,000-5,000 words Academic Paper: College Board Model Papers with Reader Commentary
(2) PREP Notebook /Logbook: Contents of the Notebook
(3) Professional Poster Board: Poster Board Templates
(4) 20 minute Presentation and Oral Defense to the panel of evaluators: Guidelines; Effective Presentations
